Russian blue chips. Blue chip stocks - what they are
Blue chips are organizations whose shares have the greatest liquidity and are the most popular in exchange trading. The situation on the Russian stock market is unstable, therefore the above list of blue-chip companies is rather arbitrary.
Characteristics of blue chips
Before getting acquainted with the list of Russian blue-chip companies, it is worth determining their main characteristics:
- Stable development of the company and growth in prices for the shares they issue. The high cost of an enterprise's securities should be due not to speculation in the stock market, but to its real state of affairs;
- The economic strength of the company. High capitalization indicators (that is, assessing the company's position in the market, which is calculated as the product of the price of shares by their number released on the market) allow us to conclude that the company is operating quite effectively
- High liquidity of securities, which is provided by a large number of transactions for their purchase and sale in a short period of time.

Blue chip stocks on the Russian stock market in 2018. What are the blue chips of the MICEX, where can I see the list of companies and stock quotes? You will find the answers to these questions in the material InvestFuture.
Blue chip shares on the MICEX. What is it?
There are thousands of stock transactions on the stock exchange every day. Some securities are in constant demand, while others are traded on an occasional basis.According to this criterion, the shares present on the stock exchange can be classified either as “blue chips” or as securities of the 2nd and 3rd echelons.
The name “blue chips” was given to the shares of large stable companies-issuers traded on the stock exchange. These companies are characterized by significant capitalization and positive dynamics of financial indicators.
Blue chip shares are highly liquid, their financial results are stable, and the holders of such shares regularly make profits
The most attractive investment paper got its name from the phrase Blue Chips. It came from the world of gambling, because blue is the color of the most expensive casino tokens.
Fluctuations in the blue-chip market characterize the behavior of players on the exchange as a whole. As a rule, the growth in the value of shares of the 1st echelon leads to positive dynamics in the securities market of other categories. And on the contrary: if the blue chips start to fall in price, they lose in price and the shares are simpler.
Based on the financial parameters of the blue chips of the Russian stock market, the Moscow Exchange introduced an index characterizing the state of the market. The MICEX blue-chip index includes the parameters of the 15 most liquid domestic issuers. Its composition is revised once a quarter.
Blue chip market. What promotions are included?
In order for the issuer's shares to be classified as blue chips, the following criteria must be met:
1. High liquidity
Liquidity is determined by how quickly an asset can be sold so that it does not lose its value or it decreases slightly. For an investor, liquidity means how quickly he can sell or buy shares at their current value. High liquidity means low risk for the asset holder.
Liquidity is determined by the number of shares in circulation - the more there are, the more liquid the financial product
It is also necessary to take into account how many investors are willing to make transactions with these assets. If there are enough such investors, this indicates the investment attractiveness of shares.
2. Narrow spread
Another indicator that determines liquidity and which an investor should pay attention to during trading is the difference in price at the time of buying and selling (spread). The smaller this difference, the higher the liquidity of the stock can be said.
Often during exchange trading, the maximum spread is set. If this level is exceeded, trading may be stopped.
3. Low volatility
Volatility is an indicator that characterizes how much the value of an asset can change over a period of time. A low range of price fluctuations indicates the investment stability of the asset, which means that it has low risks.
However, volatility is directly related to potential return: securities with low volatility have low returns.
4. Trading volume
It is calculated by the number and price of shares participating in exchange trading for a certain period of time. The parameter has to do with liquidity, but there are periods when the trading volumes of even highly liquid stocks may decline.
5. Capitalization
To calculate the market capitalization, you need to multiply the number of issued shares by their market price. For example, a company has released one million shares on the market. The cost of one share on the stock exchange was 10 rubles. As a result, the market capitalization is calculated as 1 million * per 10 rubles. and amounts to 10 million rubles.
Please note: the listed indicators are rather arbitrary and there are no exact parameters to characterize the issuer's shares as “blue chips”.
List of blue chips on the Russian and world markets in 2018
On the world stock market The Dow Jones and NASDAQ indices, which are entirely composed of first-tier stocks, have become a kind of benchmark. List of Blue Chips Traded on the global stock market:

The turnover volumes of blue chips on the domestic stock market account for at least 85% of the total number of trades in all securities on the Moscow Exchange.
As befits tier 1 stocks, Russian blue chips are distinguished by high liquidity due to a significant number of assets in circulation, as well as the reliability of issuers
The narrow spread is associated with the high activity of exchange trading in these securities. For example, the spread on Gazprom securities varies within 10 kopecks and corresponds to approximately 0.7 percent of the share price. As a result, blue chips attract investors for quick speculation.
Domestic blue chips have relatively low price volatility. Traditionally, the difference between the price minimum and the maximum is no more than 1-2 percent.
Of course, there are periods when blue chips can significantly fall in price or, on the contrary, rise sharply. In a financial crisis, the value of even the most stable securities can fall by as much as 20%. However, it must be admitted that such situations are rare. In a stable period, price corrections of even 5 percent are rare. Such volatility does not allow making significant profit on fluctuations in the share price, however, it significantly minimizes risks.
Good day, dear readers! Ruslan Miftakhov greets you and today I will tell you about the blue chips of the Russian stock market, as well as how you can trade them with the help of brokers.
I think that people interested in additional income opportunities, including through the Internet, will find this article very useful. And for the general development it will not hurt to figure out - what are blue chips?
Blue chips are a kind of list of the largest organizations (both in the world and separately in Russia) that have the most highly liquid and popular stocks in the exchange sector.
But this concept is rather arbitrary, because there is no clear criterion for determining the "color of a chip" of a stock. This is a kind of label that is hung on a stock based on the number of trading operations performed with it during an exchange session.
Which stocks are the most liquid and popular now? These are Sberbank of Russia, Gazprom, Rosneft, Lukoil, SevStal, VTB Bank, Rosseti and others. The first 35 positions on the list are classified as blue chips.
Why Blue Chips
This name came to Russia from American casinos, in which the most expensive chips with a high denomination are blue.
But in America, such a name is not only for stocks, but also for companies that have a reliable reputation and are doing profitable business regardless of the situation in the country (economic growth or crisis).
There are about 30 such corporations, and they are considered "gay" all over the world. For example, Apple belongs to them, by the way there is a good opportunity to make money, if you are interested, I will tell you in more detail.

According to the level of their liquidity, the shares are divided into three echelons. Some of the shares in the first tier are called “blue chips” (from the English “blue chip”, this is the name of the most expensive chips when playing poker). This is the name for the shares of the country's most stable and highly profitable enterprises, which are leaders in their industries and do not violate the rights of shareholders, even the smallest ones.
Who can you trust?
The main advantage of blue chips is the ability to pay stable dividends to their shareholders for many years, regardless of whether the year was financially successful or not.
Blue chips are characterized by:
- to grow steadily for several years, and this growth is due not only to speculation, but also to the real state of affairs in the company;
- the presence of great economic power (a company can be a monopoly), with a large capitalization indicator (market valuation of the company);
- be highly liquid due to the large number of transactions.
Examples of blue chips in the Western economy are world famous companies: Microsoft, IBM, Coca-Cola Compani, Ford, Hewlett Packard, Google, American Express Compani and others. In Russia, these are monopolists: Gazprom, Sberbank, Norilsk Nickel, Lukoil, Rosneft and other leading oil companies that occupy the top lines in the RTS and MICEX indices.
What is the profitability of blue chips?
Very often in the financial market, security and profitability are two sides of the coin. The higher the profitability of the invested funds, the more risky it is to make these investments. Even for “blue chips” there is such a word as “crisis”, but, as a rule, they experience similar shocks with less losses than shares of companies of the second and third tiers, since the economies of many countries very often depend on their efficient performance.
Stocks on the stock exchange are, of course, blue chips. They are easy to buy and sell because there is always someone willing to make a deal with them. Although investing in them is not the most profitable: investing money in such shares, the investor hopes not so much on a big profit as on the fact that these investments will not go bankrupt, and he will always be able to sell the shares and return his investments.
The average profitability of blue chips, as shown by a study conducted in the United States, does not exceed 11% per annum. Blue Chips are on a constant upward trend, especially in the growing stock market. In most cases, their issuing companies are large capitalized.
Capitalization is the number of all shares of a company admitted to trading multiplied by the market value of one share. In simple terms, this is the market value of the company.
Companies with high capitalization must prepare their reports taking into account international standards, which in turn makes them "transparent" and shareholders. Thanks to this data, potential investors draw conclusions about the prospects of the company, the effectiveness of its work, etc., and on the basis of this they decide whether to buy or not buy shares of this company. Therefore, blue chips, as a rule, are valued on the stock exchange without overstating or understating their value.
But not everything is as smooth as we would like. Analysts predict that with the growth of the Russian economy, the specific number of monopolies in the stock market will decrease, which in turn will cause an increase in the number of companies with smaller capitalization, the so-called "second tier". But today it is the “blue chips” that are the safest and most liquid on the Russian stock market.
This article discusses the topic of investing in stock markets. The blue chip list is an excellent initial investment to increase your own working capital. What is it and how to learn how to make money on the Moscow Exchange.

A novice investor will not be interested in the blue chips of the Russian stock market. In general, it should be noted that blue chips are the very first tool a beginner needs to get to know. This is the name given to the shares of the largest, most stable and profitable corporations. Among Russian stocks, this includes such giants as Gazprom, Lukoil, Rosneft, Norilsk Nickel and other names that you hear every day from advertisements and news blocks.
Blue chips
Russian blue-chip stocks are highly liquid, stable and expensive securities with constant growth, but hardly showing any sharp economic leaps. These are already established companies that are systematically growing and growing based on plans for many years to come, but you can earn serious money here only in some cases:
- Long-term investment. If you have invested in the most liquid stocks, then you can be sure that you will not face serious losses. But you also won't get rich quick. These stocks are growing slowly but surely, so you can count on a serious profit only after several years. Over this period, there will be both upward jumps and shallow short-term dips caused by market conditions. So don't be sad if you invested yesterday. Yes, tomorrow you won't become a millionaire, but in a few years it is quite possible. Therefore, from this point of view, investments in blue chips should be viewed as long-term projects for the future. So take some time and money today to get this deal done. Your future will thank you.
- Dividend income. As you know, shareholders are entitled to receive a portion of the company's total profit. This is called dividends. Such a sum of money will depend on the overall success of the corporation - the issuer of the shares, which means that you will have to expect that the company will show good growth in this particular year. Blue chips provide a dividend yield, but in order to receive a good amount every year, it is necessary to invest quite a lot of money. Also keep in mind that shares can be both ordinary and preferred, which means in the second option you will have the right to receive stable payments, but the shares are much more expensive.
