Oh, those numbers. Where did such large sums of income of one of the leading top managers of the Russian Federation - Andrey Kostin come from? Forbes editor-in-chief explained the absence of VTB President's salary assessment in the rating Andrey Kostin's income in recent years according to Forbes
Which of the managers has the maximum compensation? To answer this question, Forbes first compiled. We limited the study to the 70 largest enterprises by revenue in 2011, excluding state corporations and companies controlled by owners (Lukoil, Severstal, Rusal). After examining the official reports of companies, interviewing more than 10 senior recruiting consultants, using information from sources, we received an expert assessment of CEO compensation. The final figure takes into account the remuneration that the CEO receives in the company (salary, bonus, percentage of profit) and in the boards of directors of subsidiaries. Potential payments to executives outside of Russia were also taken into account.
In Russia, unlike Europe and the United States, even public companies do not disclose the amount of remuneration to the head in their statements. Of the 70 largest companies, only X5 Retail Group fully indicates the annual remuneration of executives. Former CEO of the company Andrey Gusev, who left it in July 2012, earned a total of $ 2.9 million in 2011 ($ 1.02 million - salary, $ 1.09 million - bonus, $ 0.76 million - option program). Gusev did not make it to the top 25 CEO, the minimum remuneration of the rating participants was $ 4 million.
Who is at the top? In the top five are the heads of exclusively state-owned companies. The rating is headed by Andrey Kostin, President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Group. According to experts, he earns a total of about $ 30 million a year. The total remuneration of key VTB managers in 2011 also amounted to a record $ 194 million. According to Forbes interlocutors, most of Kostin's remuneration, like most of the other CEOs on the list, most likely, it receives abroad, in particular in Cyprus, where VTB has a subsidiary bank, Russian Commmercial Bank (RCB). In 2011, the group's managers received an additional $ 40 million from a Cypriot bank in the form of dividends alone.
The income from the Cypriot bank can also explain the annual compensation of $ 15 million for the President of the Bank of Moscow, Mikhail Kuzovlev, who is in the top five; he headed RCB until 2008 and now works as one of its directors.
“The leaders of our largest companies, such as VTB or Gazprom, believe they should earn as much as their Western counterparts,” says one senior recruiting consultant, who asked not to be named. Let's compare VTB with the world's giants. Among the heads of the largest Western banks, the head of JPMorgan Chase & Co, James Dimon, earned the most over the last year ($ 42 million). He is followed by Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs Group ($ 21.7 million). But JPMorgan Chase & Co is 10 times more than VTB Group in assets ($ 2.3 trillion versus $ 230 billion), and the net profit of the American bank exceeds VTB's profit by more than six times ($ 19 billion versus $ 3 billion).
The head of "Gazprom" Alexey Miller took second place in the rating with an estimate of $ 25 million. And this is a world record in terms of the monetary part of the compensation package. The highest remuneration among CEOs of global oil and gas companies in 2011 was with ConocoPhillips CEO James Mulva - $ 15.6 million. In second place is Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson ($ 13.9 million). True, unlike Miller, Mulva and Tillerson received a significant part of the remuneration for many years in shares. Tillerson's stake at the end of 2011 was estimated at $ 151 million, Malwa - at $ 60 million. Miller's shares, which he received under the stock options program in January 2009, are now worth $ 1.1 million.
Igor Sechin, who became head of Rosneft in May 2012, also earns the same amount as Miller - $ 25 million a year. Experts note that this parity is logical: Sechin and Miller head companies that are comparable in importance to the Russian economy.
But the compensation of the head of Sberbank German Gref - $ 15 million - is two times lower than that of Kostin. In the future, according to headhunters, Gref will be able to earn tens of millions of dollars on options. While most of his compensation is additional remuneration, which depends on the profit of Sberbank, under the contract it can go up to 0.075% of net profit. In 2011, Sberbank's net profit amounted to $ 10.75 billion.Consequently, Gref could additionally earn almost $ 8 million.
At the same time, according to Georgy Abdushelishvili, Ward Howell senior partner, Gref may have deserved a high reward this year more than others. “Sberbank has become truly international: if the bank used to work in three countries, now in twenty, and its assets have grown by more than $ 50 billion,” he notes.
In addition to Gref, according to Abdushelishvili, major successes were achieved by the head of Gazprom Neft Alexander Dyukov ($ 8 million) and CEO of Aeroflot Vitaly Savelyev ($ 2.5 million, not included in the rating; read an article in the magazine about how he rebuilt Aeroflot). Gazprom Neft painlessly moved its head office from Moscow to St. Petersburg, retained key employees and continued its expansion in the Russian and international markets. Aeroflot took 1st place in several international ratings, significantly improving not only financial performance, but also the quality of service.
In the top ten, four places went to CEOs of private companies. Sixth - Dmitry Razumov ($ 12 million, Onexim), eighth - Ivan Streshinsky ($ 10 million, USM Holding), ninth - Vladimir Strzhalkovsky ($ 10 million, Norilsk Nickel), tenth - Mikhail Shamolin ($ 10 million, AFK Sistema "). All these enterprises, by the way, are owned by businessmen from the Forbes list. In the ranking of the highest paid CEOs, the only woman is the head of Basic Element, Gulzhan Moldazhanova ($ 4 million, 23rd place).
In general, in the market, the salaries of senior executives look much more modest (see the table "Payroll" on page 120). The growth of compensations averaged 15-20% over the past year. Managers of commercial banks began to earn more than others. This happened due to intensive consolidation in the sector, believes Artur Shamilov, partner of the TopContact Executive Search agency: “As a result, the income of managers in large banks has grown, and in small ones, which continue to lose business, on the contrary, have fallen.”
The worst case is for investment bankers, whose remuneration remained at last year's level. The salaries of heads of trade departments fell (on average by 15%). Many of the highly paid investment bankers have left the industry, they move to commercial banks, start their own business, or just take a break. Notable appointments include the return of two managers: Pavel Teplukhin, who has worked for almost 20 years at Troika Dialog, after a two-year vacation became the head of Deutsche Bank, and Ilkka Salonen (International Moscow Bank, Sberbank) became Chairman of the Board of Uralsib Bank.
“If before people agreed to move from their place only with a two-fold or even three-fold increase in compensation, now they agree by 20-40%,” says Andrey Filippov, a partner at Horton International.
Information about the income of the leaders of the largest companies has always been of great interest to the media and the public. Nobody knows the exact numbers, so journalists can only guess how high the salaries of Russian top managers are.
The heads of the largest Russian companies, including Andrey Kostin from VTB, Igor Sechin from Rosneft, the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller. The only source of information in the press about their earnings is the Forbes magazine rating. So, according to 2015, Andrei Kostin is among the highest paid Russian managers in Forbes, along with Igor Sechin from Rosneft and the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller. Andrey Kostin's fortune from VTB to Forbes in 2015 increased by $ 21 million in 2014, which allowed him to take second place in the list. In 2014, Andrey Kostin, for the first time in several years, moved from a leading position in Forbes to second place. In 2011, Andrey Kostin topped the rating, in 2012 he was in second place, in 2013 he again became the first. The magazine always pays considerable attention to highly paid top managers of Russia and evaluates their condition using a specially developed system.
Interestingly, the rating data does not coincide at all with the income data that can be obtained by analyzing the data of the company itself. So, in 2015, the amount of remuneration to the VTB Management Board decreased by 4 times and amounted to 399 million rubles. Thus, the income of Andrei Kostin could not make the fantastic figures for this period of time, which are given in the magazine. What is the real salary of Andrey Kostin and other top managers of the largest Russian companies?
Andrey Kostin's income in recent years according to Forbes
Assessment of Andrey Kostin's income by journalists:
- In 2011 - about $ 30 million,
- In 2012 - about $ 35 million,
- In 2013 - about $ 37 million,
- In 2014 - about $ 21 million,
- In 2015 - about $ 19.6 million.
This is the data on the annual salary for the year, which is made publicly available by Forbes magazine. The rating data has been publicly criticized several times. So, experts said that the figures, including the incomes of Andrei Kostin, Igor Sechin, cannot be the figures indicated in the magazine. The fact is that the magazine uses a survey of HR specialists to compile its rating. But Russian specialists are not involved in finding managers for such positions and, accordingly, cannot know about the income level of the same Andrei Kostin.
The salary of the head of VTB, Andrei Kostin, for 2013 amounted, according to him, to 200 million rubles. Andrey Kostin receives income from personal investments, which, in principle, have nothing to do with VTB. Therefore, the salary of Andrei Kostin, according to him, is not at all the same as that presented by Kostin to VTB in Forbes.
Thus, the banker disclosed the amount of personal remuneration for the work of the head of VTB Bank. The financier has always loved to invest and knew how to do it successfully. Therefore, Andrey Kostin's salary and total income are different things. Andrey Kostin's income, which he receives from investing and working closely with business partners, does not refer to the amount that may be a basis for a well-known magazine to place it in a certain position.
Andrey Kostin's career
After graduating from Moscow University, Andrei Kostin worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has served as ambassador to Australia and the UK. The financier left the civil service in 1992. He began to work in the capital "Russian Investment and Financial Company". In 1993 he moved to Bank Imperial and became Deputy Head of Foreign Investment Management.
In 1996, the financier was appointed President of Vnesheconombank, where he worked for six years.
Andrey Kostin has been working at VTB since 2002. The banker is not only concerned with financing and investments. Charity is also part of his work.
When choosing a future profession, an important, and in some cases, a primary role is played by such a factor as the size of wages. Of course, ideally, everyone wants to do what they love, but it is also important what income the chosen profession brings. Where can I find a job that meets all the requirements? Let's find out who has the highest salary among our fellow citizens, and what professions in Russia are the most profitable.
Top managers
Undoubtedly, top managers and heads of the largest state corporations have the highest salary among employees in Russia. Let's take a look at the monthly income of the richest of them.
As you can see, Andrey Kostin, the head of VTB Bank, has the highest salary in Russia. It exceeds one and a half billion rubles a year. But other heads of the largest Russian companies also have incomes that mere mortals can only dream about.
Members of the Government of the Russian Federation and deputies
Members of the Government of the Russian Federation and deputies of the State Duma have rather large salaries. Thus, Russian President Vladimir Putin earns 713 thousand rubles a month in his post, while Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has a monthly salary of 570 thousand rubles. The salaries of other ministers and other senior officials vary in the range from 341 to 786 thousand rubles. The most earnings are ministers of power departments, whose salaries even exceed the presidential one.
State Duma deputies today earn 420 thousand rubles a month, but according to some information in 2018, their earnings may increase to 800 thousand rubles.
Well, if your salary is not the highest in the country, then it will be useful to study the history of a person who managed to get a job as a copywriter after six months.
Naturally, the income of all officials and deputies was given only at the main place of work, excluding dividends from shares, part-time salaries in other government positions and other additional types of income, which often exceed their official salary.
Sports stars
Sports stars who perform in Russia have very high, and often, according to most experts, even inflated salaries. Considering that foreign currency appears in the contracts as payment, due to the devaluation in terms of rubles, the earnings of famous athletes have recently increased several times.
For example, the Brazilian footballer Hulk, playing for Zenit St. Petersburg, has a contract with the club in the amount of 7 million euros per year, which at the current exchange rate is approximately equal to 47 million rubles. per month. Our compatriot Alexander Kokorin, playing for Dynamo Moscow, receives a little less - 5 million euros a year, or about 34 million rubles a month.
In addition to football, the following sports are well paid in our country:
- hockey;
- tennis;
- professional boxing;
- basketball.
Show Business
Well-known Russian cinema and pop artists also have quite good incomes. For example, the singer Grigory Leps was able to earn more than $ 12 million in a year. Such famous personalities as conductor Valery Gergiev, singers Philip Kirkorov, Nikolai Baskov and Stas Mikhailov earn about ten million dollars a year. The annual income of such figures of show business as Ivan Urgant, Valery Meladze, Sergey Bezrukov, Nikita Mikhalkov, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Timati and others is calculated in millions.
The catch is that it is very difficult to separate their income from their professional activities against the background of those that many of the artists get in business, running shops, factories, investing money in stocks. This is the clearest example of how show and business have come together.
At the same time, you need to understand that this is only the tip of the iceberg, and most ordinary artists work in theaters for a penny.
Profession rating
Profession | Average monthly earnings, thousand rubles |
drilling director | 600,0 |
bank branch manager | 500,0 |
pilot | 300,0 |
drilling engineer | 115,0 |
director (manager) of the organization | 100,0 |
petroleum engineer | 100,0 |
cosmonaut instructor | 88,5 |
geologist | 81,7 |
referee | 70,0 |
prosecutor | 70,0 |
IT specialist | 70,0 |
As you can see, workers in the oil, financial, aviation and space industries, as well as information technology specialists, have the highest wages in Russia. In addition, some categories of law enforcement and judicial officials receive fairly high wages.
Drilling directors earn the most (600,000 rubles a month), bank managers (500,000 rubles), and pilots (300,000 rubles).
It should also be taken into account that the average earnings by profession are presented above, and high-level professionals in their field of activity can receive even larger amounts in the form of wages.
Which profession to choose?
Of course, only a few are destined to be the head of a large corporation, a well-known politician, movie star, stage or sports star, but everyone can become a high-class oilman, geologist, computer technology specialist or manager. This requires a lot of strength and patience, which should be applied to study and on the first steps of climbing the career ladder. If you show the due share of perseverance and diligence, then the chances are very high to become a demanded and highly paid specialist, a master of his craft.
Only when choosing a future profession, you need to remember that it is better not to take on that specialty to which the soul does not lie, because after chasing a long ruble, you can not earn money and not become a good specialist.
Forbes magazine has published a new list of the highest paid people in the country. As it turns out, it is quite possible to live well in our country on a salary even during a crisis. It all depends only on the size of this very salary.
10. Mikhail Kuzovlev - $ 9.5 million per year.
Former president of the Bank of Moscow, and now the head of the board of the bank "Russian capital". It is noteworthy that over the past year, Mr. Kuzovlev received $ 17 million, almost twice as much as this one. The crisis, however, is it easy for whom now?
9. Vladimir Yakunin - $ 11 million per year.
Former head of Russian Railways, who left office in August this year. Last year, his salary was $ 15 million this year - he also had to "shrink".
8. Ruben Aganbegyan - $ 11 million a year.
Chairman of the Management Board and General Director of Otkritie Holding OJSC. It is impossible to say whether Mr. Aganbegyan's income has increased or decreased, because he was not previously included in this list.
7. Mikhail Shamolin - $ 11.6 million per year.
President of AFK Sistema. A year ago, his income was $ 15 million.
6. German Gref - $ 13.5 million a year.
The head of Sberbank was also among those whose income fell this year. At the end of last year, he earned $ 16 million.
5. Ivan Streshinsky - $ 15 million per year.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metalloinvest and member of the Board of Directors of USM Holdings. Unlike the previous members of the list, his income remained the same as last year.
4. Dmitry Razumov - $ 15 million per year.
General Director of the Onexim Group. His salary is also unchanged from last year.
3. Igor Sechin - $ 17.5 million a year.
Head of Rosneft. Unfortunately, there is no way to say how much the income of Mr. Sechin has decreased over the year. The fact is that Forbes evaluated his previous awards, but had no right to publish because of the lawsuit filed by Sechin against the editorial board. Nevertheless, revenues for the year still declined.
2. Andrey Kostin - $ 21 million per year.
The one who had the worst was the chairman of the board of VTB, Andrey Kostin. A year ago, his salary was $ 37 million, and now it is some measly $ 21 million. How can you live on them?
1. Alexey Miller - $ 27 million
But the chairman of the board of "Gazprom" Alexei Miller was the luckiest of all: he is the only one on this list, whose revenues have even increased by the end of the year. Last year he received $ 25 million this year - $ 27 million. Probably a bonus, or 13 salary. In any case, for the first time, Mr. Miller topped the list of the highest paid top managers in Russia, this is a success.
Journal Forbes compiled a rating of the 25 highest paid CEOs of Russian companies, answering the question of which of the managers has the maximum compensation.
The leaders of the rating are the heads of state-owned companies. The rating is headed by the President - Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Group Andrey Kostin... According to experts, he earns a total of about $ 30 million a year. According to Forbes interlocutors, most of Kostin's remuneration, like most of the other CEOs on the list, most likely receives abroad, in particular in Cyprus, where VTB has a subsidiary bank Russian Commmercial Bank (RCB). In 2011, the group's managers received an additional $ 40 million from a Cypriot bank in the form of dividends alone.
Among the heads of the largest Western banks, the head of JPMorgan Chase & Co earned the most over the last year James Dimon($ 42 million), but JPMorgan Chase & Co is 10 times more than VTB Group in assets ($ 2.3 trillion versus $ 230 billion), and the net profit of the American bank exceeds VTB's profit by more than six times ($ 19 billion versus $ 3 billion).
Head of Gazprom Alexey Miller took second place in the rating with an estimate of $ 25 million. And this is a world record - the highest remuneration among CEOs of global oil and gas companies in 2011 was with the CEO of ConocoPhillips James Mulva- $ 15.6 million In second place - the head of Exxon Mobil Rex Tillerson ($ 13.9 million).
As much as Miller - $ 25 million a year - earns Igor Sechin, who became head of Rosneft in May 2012.
