Why is a fingerprint for using Android Pay more secure than security with a digital code or pattern?
The fingerprint of each person is unique, therefore, this is the most reliable protection when making a payment. A digital code or pattern can be peeped, but a fingerprint cannot be faked.

Which bank cards support Android Pay?
What purchases can I pay with Android Pay?
For payment in stores
All smartphones with Android OS 4.4 and above that support contactless payment (NFC).
Android Pay does not work on rooted devices or on devices illegally imported into Russia.
For payments in apps and websites
All smartphones and tablets running Android 4.4 and above.
When purchasing in apps and on websites, you must select as a payment method and confirm the purchase.
After yesterday's material, readers have a few questions about the service, in this article I will try to answer them.
How to connect Android Pay?
To use Android Pay, you will need an NFC-enabled smartphone with Android version 4.4, a card from one of the banks listed below, and an app of the same name installed.
Important clarification: the service does not work if you have root or an unlocked bootloader. Interestingly, on some Xiaomi devices with official firmware and a closed bootloader, Android Pay still did not work. Also, one of the owners of Huawei Honor 8 Pro (certified version from the online store) complained about the unavailability of the application.
Interesting fact: If you already have any cards linked to your Google account, you can immediately connect them to Android Pay. If there are no such cards, then you will have to enter the card details in full. By the way, the built-in data reader incorrectly determines the card number in half of the cases, so I recommend entering it manually.

Before adding a card, make sure you have set up a PIN or a key or fingerprint lock. Without this, the service will not work.
You can confirm the card either by SMS or by calling the call center.
Then we accept the terms of use of Android Pay along with the selected bank and set this payment method as the default.
How to pay?
If you have connected several cards, then initially payment goes through the one that is selected by default. If you want to pay with another card, then you need to open Android Pay and select it manually.

To pay for purchases up to 1000 rubles, you just need to turn on the screen of your smartphone and attach it to the terminal, the payment will be processed automatically. To pay for a purchase a large amount, you first need to unlock the smartphone and enter the pin code in the terminal. I liked that for small amounts, the screen on is enough, you don’t need to double-tap the button to pay, as on iOS, and then hold your finger on the scanner for the payment to go through. iPhone owners wrote yesterday that you can attach an iPhone with the display turned off while holding your thumb on the scanner and the payment will go through, but the fact is that on older iPhones the scanner is slow, as a result, it takes more time to pay, and sometimes you have to try at all twice.
You can make purchases without the Internet, but all information about purchases is stored on the network, and not on the internal drive, so after a few such transactions, the AP will still ask you to connect to the network. And this is its minus, in comparison with Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
In theory, you can also pay from the watch, but my Huawei Watch 2, despite the presence of NFC, for some reason did not support this feature.
In addition to offline purchases, Android Pay can also be used when paying in applications. At the moment it is already available in Uber, Delivery Club, OneTwoTrip and Rambler.Checkout. Later, the possibility of paying on the websites of online stores should also appear.
Security
The main security question that has been asked many times: what about the fact that you don’t need to unlock your smartphone to pay up to 1000 rubles? I read on iGuides that the maximum number of payments without unlocking the smartphone is limited to three, but I saw this mention too late, so I'll check it myself tomorrow. But in principle, such a restriction looks logical, and if the smartphone is lost, the attacker will be able to spend no more than 3,000 rubles.
Another horror story is people in public transport, walking with terminals and imperceptibly applying them to passengers' smartphones. In my opinion, this is also an implausible story, because payment terminal it’s not so easy to get it, and with such fraud, it will not be difficult to figure out the thief. Plus, for such a payment, at least the screen of the smartphone must be turned on, which means it is in your hand, respectively, you will see a scammer with a terminal.
I will say this: any payment instrument, from a regular wallet with cash to Android Pay, is always a small risk. In most cases, the convenience justifies the mythical possibility of theft or fraud, but if you are very worried, then you can either tighten the limits in the Internet bank, or not use the cards at all.
Loyalty cards
In addition to bank cards, loyalty cards can also be added to AP. The main stores are already in the service database, though it turned out funny with the Victoria card, I seemed to have found it in the list, entered the number, and then it turned out that if you go to the store’s website, you will not be taken to the supermarket page at all.
What do online banking purchases look like?
Advanced banking users asked to clarify if the MCC code changes when paying via Android Pay? I answer - it does not change, the transaction goes through the same way as if you were paying with a card. Some banks, such as Tinkoff, put a small wireless payment icon next to such purchases so that you understand what you paid through.
Possible problems with returns
Since a token is generated for each purchase, problems may arise when returning goods. If you go to return something, then you need to return it through the terminal through which the purchase was made, because for other terminals the token will be different. In general, I recommend not to be lazy and for large purchases, still get a bank card from your pocket, and not show off with paying by phone.
Promotions and discounts
All promotions with Android Pay work as follows. You pay for the purchase, and then immediately part of it is returned to the card.
The most famous promotion for the launch of Android Pay is trips to the metro and the Moscow Central Circle for one ruble. Or rather, initially they were supposed to be in rubles, but later the conditions were changed to a 50% discount, and even later it turned out that the promotion would be valid from June 23 at all.
Another promotion is a 50% discount when paying for an Aeroexpress ticket via Android Pay. It is valid only for the first 3000 participants and works great, my friend has already managed to use it. It is important to use the linked card of the Mastercard payment system.
The third promotion gives a 50% discount on any Burger King sandwich, but is also valid only for Mastercard cards.

Conclusion
Some users complained about some roughness in the operation of Android Pay, I personally tend to write them off for specific terminals and smartphones, since in my case there were no problems, the payment went through instantly.
The real problem is the location of the terminals at some points. For example, KFC in Prince Plaza keep all the terminals near the cashiers and you have to reach for them in order to pay with your smartphone, while Victoria does not display an offer to pay by contactless method at all, although it actually works.
5 (100%) 1 voteFrom May 23, Russian owners of Android phones can use the Android Pay service and not wear bank cards with myself. To do this, it is only important that your phone meets several requirements:
- Android version on your smartphone must be at least 4.4 (KitKat);
- Smartphone must have contactless technology NFC
- The device must not be rooted;
- To use the Android Pay service, you must have at least one card of any of these Banks:
There are some restrictions on the use of certain cards in this service. For example, although Sberbank supports Android Pay, it will not be possible to add a Visa Electron and Maestro card to the service, there may also be restrictions on adding certain debit or credit cards some banks. Here full list supported card types in Android Pay as of May 29:
This list is subject to change, check it in the official Android Pay help.
What is Android Pay?
Prior to the launch of Android Pay, only Apple and Samsung owners could use the contactless payment service with their phone - due to their privilege in the market, they launched their technologies earlier. With the release of Android Pay, all other owners of Android-based phones can now pay using smartphones.
Strictly speaking, Samsung Pay and Android Pay are different technologies. The first is patented by Samsung, the second is freely distributed among other Android smartphones. But the essence and the method of using these technologies are practically indistinguishable.
All market participants have high hopes for the Android Pay service, because in fact, the contactless payment function is now available to hundreds of millions of devices. Russian banks also predict a significant increase in contactless transactions this year.
How to add a bank card to Android Pay
1. Download and install the official Android Pay app from the Play Market:
2. Run the application and on the welcome screen, click "Welcome":
3. Select "Add card" / "Add another card":
4. The camera will start. Place the card in the frame so that the card number is read:
You can enter the card number manually by clicking the "Add manually" button.
4. The application will check if the device uses at least one protection method:
For the application to work, your device must be protected: it must use at least one security method: a PIN code, a graphic pattern, or a fingerprint. This requirement is introduced in Android Pay to directly protect payments and confirm them, if necessary.
5. Click "OK" and in the next window select the card confirmation method (usually SMS):
6. Enter the code from the received SMS:
7. A window that says "Android Pay app installed" will notify you that everything is fine:
The last linked card becomes the default settlement card. Of course, you can add as many bank cards as you like and set any of them as the default card at any time.
The card can also be added using the Bank's mobile application that uses Android Pay. But if you have a lot of cards, and they are all from different Banks, adding them through the Android Pay application will be faster than entering mobile app each Bank and add card by card.
How to pay for purchases using Android Pay
You can pay with Android Pay wherever contactless payment is accepted, including those that accept MasterCard with PayPass technology and Visa with PayWave.
The payment terminal may also have an icon:
The official Android Pay help says that to pay using a smartphone:
- Unlock your phone
- Bring it to the contactless payment terminal
- Wait for notification of successful payment:
Thus, neither launching the application itself at the time of payment, nor confirming the payment with any pin code, password or fingerprint is required.
But in fact, payment on different smartphones and terminals can take place in different ways: for example, you may need to enter the PIN code of the card directly on the terminal, or confirm payment on the device itself. There are even reviews that some purchases go through even without unlocking the phone screen - by simply bringing the smartphone to the payment terminal. At the same time, some note that then you need to enter a PIN code or an unlock code on the phone. In general, there are a lot of variations. No one will tell you in advance how the payment will be made directly on your smartphone and in those stores where you are used to shopping - only practice will help.
Please note that if your smartphone uses several contactless payment methods at once (for example, Samsung Pay and Android Pay), Android Pay may not work if another contactless payment method is activated on the device at the time of payment. Check this in your smartphone settings before paying by phone.
With Android Pay, you can also pay for online purchases. At the moment, there are few online stores that allow you to accept payments using Android Pay, but in the very near future the number of such sites will increase significantly.
To pay for online purchases using Android Pay, select "Android Pay" as the payment method:
In each particular online store, this may look different, but the essence is approximately the same.
At the moment, using Android Pay, you can pay for purchases made in the Lamoda online store, in OneTwoTrip, Afisha, Rambler.Kassa, Uber and Kinokhod services:
In the near future, it will be possible to pay for purchases using Android Pay with these services:
How safe is it to pay with Android Pay?
This technology has been fully tested and accredited and is considered completely safe. The fact is that for the calculation using Android Pay, during the registration of your physical bank card, a special one is created, virtual card or a virtual account, so your real bank card data is not used anywhere when using Android Pay, which means that no one can be intercepted.
But intercepting anything when making purchases using Android Pay is almost impossible, because. all transactions made contactless are transmitted in encrypted form, and the encryption key for each purchase is unique and is generated every time you bring your smartphone to the payment terminal or make an online purchase. Moreover, only the Bank and the payment system can decrypt such information. This data is not left on any intermediate servers or storages.
For the entire period of using this technology abroad and for the entire period of using similar technologies - Samsung Pay or Apple Pay - in Russia, not a single case of card compromise or any fraudulent activity has been recorded.
Therefore, you can be absolutely sure of the safety of this technology.
Promotions, discounts and cashbacks when paying with Android Pay
In order to promote the new service, several promotions are currently launched.
1. 50% discount on Aeroexpress ticket when paying by MasterCard using Android Pay at the turnstile at the airport for the first 3,000 people:
This suggestion has already been tested and works.
2. 50% discount on any Burger King burgers when paying with a Mastercard through the Android Pay app:
The rules of this offer say that in order to receive a discount, you must warn the cashier that you will pay for the order using Android Pay. Apparently, the provision of a discount when paying via Android Pay is not automated and is carried out by the "hands" of the cashier. Consider this if you want to eat burgers with a 50% discount.
3. Free cookies when paying for coffee at Starbucks coffee shops with MasterCard at android application Pay
4. 50% discount for travel to the MCC and metro from June 23 to July 23:
In general, initially this action was supposed to give a ride in the subway for only 1 ruble, and not from June 23, but from the day Android Pay was launched in Russia - May 23. But something went wrong, and the stock was changed. We hope that this time everything will work out for sure, and from June 23 it will be possible to ride the subway for 20 rubles.
Raiffeisen Bank launched several promotions in honor of the launch of Android Pay.
5. Up to 25% cashback (but not more than 500 rubles) when paying by Visa card Raiffeisen Bank using Android Pay in cafes and restaurants from May 23 to July 23, 2017:
6. Up to 30% cashback (but not more than 500 rubles) when paying with a Raiffeisen Bank MasterCard using Android Pay in supermarkets from May 23 to July 23, 2017:
It seems that these are all known promotions launched in honor of Android Pay so far.
