Welcoming speech by the head of the department:
Our university is the oldest economic university in the country. From the moment of its foundation, it was famous for its teachers - outstanding scientists: professors S.N. Bulgakov, A.A. Manuilov, V. Ya. Zheleznov, D.M. Petrushevsky. In Soviet times, we were taught by academicians L.I. Abalkin, D.S. Lvov, N. Ya. Petrakov. We are proud that all these scientists worked in our department - the Department of Economic Theory (until 1994 - Political Economy).
Currently, the department employs 24 teachers, including: 1 corresponding member, 4 doctors of sciences, 17 candidates of sciences. We teach in such disciplines as: Economics, Economic Theory, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Institutional Economics, Fundamentals modern economy... Many disciplines are taught in English.
We start teaching the basics of economic knowledge, and we are called to develop a culture of economic thinking among students, instill in them an interest in our science, teach them to understand the interconnections of economic phenomena and events.
This is not easy to do. Economics requires an extremely serious attitude. Fragmentary and superficial knowledge leads to the absolutization of private recipes, the use of methods inadequate for a specific situation, and the adoption of erroneous decisions. All this, in turn, gives rise to problems of survival, both of individual economic entities and of the entire national economy.
Therefore, the theory must be known, understood and loved.
The faculty of the department uses advanced teaching technologies, striving not only to transfer economic knowledge, but also to instill a love for economic science. The department is active, takes part in research and development and projects, in cooperation with the Situation Center, develops forecasts of the socio-economic development of the Russian Federation.
Tasks of the department:
in the field of educational activities:
- NS to instill in the audience a culture of economic thinking;
- teach to understand the relationship of economic phenomena and processes;
- to give an idea of the economy as an integral system;
- teach ь basic skills and tools of economic analysis;
- to awaken interest in scientific research in the field of economic theory;
- form ba memory for further assimilation of economic knowledge.
in the field of scientific activity:
- develop new directions of economic theory;
- to investigate the processes taking place in the economy, to identify new trends and patterns;
- to propose measures aimed at increasing the socio-economic efficiency of the entire national economy, individual industries, territories and economic entities;
- to attract students, undergraduates and postgraduates to participate injoint scientific activities.
in the field of educational activities:
- contribute to the formation of a civic position among students based on deep economic knowledge;
- the ability to analyze and compare various facts, events and phenomena.

Cross-cultural management: learning about culture,
getting to know the past and traditions
At the end of November 2019, students of the Management direction (group 208, direction "Human Resource Management") as part of the study of the discipline "Cross-cultural management" under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department of ET&M O. V. Shataeva. visited the "Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center".
The Jewish Museum and Center for Tolerance is a cultural and educational project that includes a historical exhibition, temporary exhibitions, an avant-garde center, a space for public lectures, discussions and conferences, a 4D cinema, a tolerance center and a children's center. The idea of creating the Jewish Museum belongs to the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FEOR) and its leaders - Alexander Moiseevich Boroda, Borukh Gorin and the Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar.
Students had an excellent opportunity to visit one of the excursions of this center and go on an exciting journey through the centuries-old history of the Jewish people in Russia and abroad. The excursion was devoted to the foundations of Judaism as a tradition carried by the Jewish people through the centuries and giving rise to separate traditions of Christianity and Islam. The tour included watching a movie in a 4D cinema, dedicated to the main events described in the Torah and the Old Testament, demonstrating unique artifacts and documentary photographs, as well as interacting with the museum's interactive exhibits.
Thanks to the exhibition space of the museum, students were able to travel back in time and feel the historical context. During the excursion, students not only learned about the history and culture of Jewish communities that appeared in different countries after the destruction of the Second Jerusalem Temple, but they were also able to trace the path of resettlement of the Jewish people around the world.
The excursion also involved interactive involvement in the exposition: students had the opportunity to study in a cheder (elementary school), stroll through the bustling market of the town and meet Shabbat with a Jewish family - one of the special days in the Jewish tradition (Shabbat is the 4th of the 10 commandments, and it is so often mentioned in the Torah that it allows us to speak of it as one of the most important elements of Judaism).
The tour of the Jewish Museum left the students with an indelible impression and admiration for the expositions and interactive exhibits, which made it possible to go through the era and see with their own eyes the most important historical traditions and customs of the Jewish people, visit the shtetl and the synagogue, and visit the memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. This became possible thanks to modern multimedia technologies, within the framework of one museum exhibition.

Educational lecture hall for students within the framework of the Days of Slavic Written Language and Culture at Moscow State Pedagogical University
On May 22, 2019, an Enlightenment lecture hall for students was held in the Building of the Humanities Faculties of the Moscow Pedagogical State University within the framework of the Days of Slavic Written Language and Culture.
What is Russian World? How will the process of "changing milestones" in the confrontation with the West end for our country? Where is Russia heading in search of its cultural and civilizational identity? The students were invited to reflect on these questions by the associate professor of the Department of Socio-Political Research and Technology, Deputy Director of the Institute of History and Politics, Ph.D. Vladimir Leonidovich Shapovalov.
The open lecture “Russia and the Slavic World in the Global Political, Economic and Cultural Space” called upon the students of the Institute of History and Politics and the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education to think again about the role of East and West in the formation, development and future of Russian civilization.
A historical excursion into the ancient and recent past - from the 19th century to the collapse of the USSR and beyond - to the present day - showed the audience how Russia, once the center of the "Slavic world", gradually lost its position in the 1990s. The lecturer traced how the "point of force" moved from the former USSR to the European Union and NATO, from the east to the west along with the western border of the country, as after 1991 the process of including Russia's far and near Slavic neighbors in NATO was going on. However, 2014 and the return of Crimea showed that it is possible to change the vector in the opposite direction ... Future historians, politicians, culturologists, teachers will probably find answers to many of the questions posed in their professional and public life.
The second part of the Educational Lecture Hall was built in a different genre. Interactive lecture by Professor of the Department of Culturology, Deputy Dean for Scientific Work of the Faculty of Regional Studies and Ethnocultural Education of the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Education, Doctor of Historical Sciences Anna Aleksandrovna Shevtsova "Patterned plate up to the eyebrows" invited the audience to a fascinating ethno-excursion, at the end of which a surprise awaited them.
Why are the kerchiefs of married women sometimes considered "a sign for the angels"? Why did Russian fans wear kokoshniks at the 2018 FIFA World Cup? What is a pas de shawl, "girlish beauty" and a knot for memory? How did the scarf-square become a must-have of fashionistas all over the world?
The immersion in the history of Russian folk costume, proposed by the lecturer, made it possible to connect such subjects as the costume ball in the Winter Palace of 1903 and the design of the most popular deck of cards, the Siberian ironic conceptualism of Vasily Slonov and the paper kokoshniks of fans at the World Cup, the costumes of the Hollywood saga about " Star Wars"And the tiaras of the British royal family.
At the end of the lecture, the audience acted as models at an impromptu fashion show, demonstrating, together with the presenters, a dozen unusual ways of wearing familiar accessories - scarves and stoles.
