What the new Russian banknotes look like. The introduction of new banknotes is linked to the fall of the ruble
To carry out calculations in the Russian Federation use monetary units, which were introduced in 1997. By the beginning of 2018, they have undergone changes compared to the original version. The images on them distinguish them from their counterparts and provide protection for safe use. The 100-ruble bill has its own history.
The modern 100 ruble bill bears the image of the capital Russian Federation... It also shows the following objects:
- the quadrigue of Apollo on the obverse, which adorns the port of the building of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater;
- on the back side there is a general view of the Bolshoi Theater. The watermarks located on the wide coupon field recreate the image of the theater.
National Bank The Russian Federation issued hundred-ruble bills three times: in 1997, 2001 and 2004. With each new release, there were minor design innovations, but the plot itself remained largely unchanged.
Test notes were rarely released into circulation until December 2016. Through experiments and prototypes, they improved the strength and durability of the money. The series and number of such bills were never disclosed. And people who collect paper money pulled it out of circulation using information on various forums, checking the wallet every day and hoping for good luck.
- a printing factory from Perm prepared a trial series of one hundred ruble bills by August 2016, the modification of which was 2004 and a sample of 1997. In December 2016, they were put into circulation. Previously, it was not reported on the data on the money, but this time it was decided to change it and indicated the information in advance. And all the people collecting money began to actively look for them in cash desks, ATMs and their wallets.
After a certain time, information appeared about the numbers and series of the experimental money issue. All episodes began with a capital "U". Five experiments were conceived, the fifth series, moreover, was a control one. It is recommended to identify rare money using one sign. 11 letter combinations were issued: UA, UB, UCh, UL, UN, UO, UH, US, UK, UN.
Then there is a seven-digit number. The first digit indicates the number of the experiment, of which only five are given. The essence of the experiment lies in the impregnation of papers from which a banknote of 100 rubles is made and a test of varnish coatings. As you know, new money will be released soon -. At the beginning of 2018, the average wear period of 100 rubles is 18 months.
With an increase in the license plate experience (namely from 1 to 4), the impregnation becomes stronger. For example, a hundred rubles with a license plate UA 4xxxxxx emits a paint smell more and feels denser than banknotes of the UA series with a license plate 1xxxxxx. In the fifth experiment, all letter series all the bills were put into use without changing anything at all. This was done to compare wear. The fifth episode is called the control release.
Were also released as experiences in money turnover 100 rubles, the modification of which is listed in 2001, and the AL series. They were sealed on experimental papers and covered with special water-repellent varnishes. At the moment, the price of all banknotes that have not returned to the Goznak laboratory is estimated at over 4 thousand rubles, if they are in good condition. For a little shabby, they are ready to give about 1,500 rubles.
There is also a bill that was issued at the beginning of the Olympic Games. It is very rare and practically does not appear in circulation.
In 2013, a hundred ruble note was released, timed to coincide with the Sochi Olympics. It depicted a snowboarder. It was considered the second banknote dedicated to the Olympics, the first is the Chinese one - ten yuan. A Russian banknote with a circulation of 20,000,000 was issued.
The size was 65 by 150 mm. Created from high quality white cotton papers. The main color of the design is blue with its various shades. The obverse depicts the view of a snowboarder hanging in the air performing a trick. The firebird is depicted on the back.
The banknote was endowed with five degrees of protection:
- hologram;
- micro-drawings and micro-texts;
- polymer tape depicting a ghostly "window". It contains snowflakes;
- there is a watermark in the form of the Olympic Games logo;
- as well as multi-color images. They can only be seen from a certain angle.
How much the Olympic 100 rubles cost is difficult to answer. Each collector is willing to pay a different amount for such a note.
Commemorative banknote 100 rubles - Crimea and Sevastopol
Due to the return of the peninsula to the Russian Federation, the country's Central Bank decided to issue a new one hundred ruble note. The collection was supplemented by the moment series "Defense of Sevastopol" and "Artek". The date of issue of money is indicated: 12/23/20 015. According to official sources, was released with a circulation of twenty million.
The banknote issued on December 23 depicts a monument to all the dead ships in the vicinity of the capital - Sevastopol and the Swallow's Nest castle, which is located not far from the resort - Yalta. They decided to apply the drawing not horizontally, but vertically.
New 100 bills, issued in honor of the return of Crimea, were issued in standard sizes: 65 mm wide and 150 mm long. Olive green has become the color of banknotes. The front side is dedicated to Sevastopol. The main image is the Monument to All Scuttled Ships, which is a fragment of the popular work "Russian squadron on the Sevastopol roadstead" by the great creator Aivazovsky.

- city plan;
- schematic drawing depicting architectural and historical monuments;
- a small fragment of the 1941-1942 Memorial, which is dedicated to the soldiers who heroically defended Sevastopol.
On the back side there are thematic images of the "Crimean Republic". As the main picture - "Swallow's Nest". And behind there is a view of two sights: the great mountain Ayu-Dag and the Parus rock. And also the radio telescope RT-70, grapevine and the mosque of the Khan's palace in the form of a schematic image.
Issue of a new bill for the FIFA World Cup
The release of new banknotes is scheduled for the World Cup. A new polymer note of 100 rubles was presented on May 22, 2018 by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. According to official statements, they will be released with a circulation of 20 million. The obverse of the banknote depicts a young man who dreams of repeating the achievements of great football players such as goalkeeper Lev Yashin, whose name is inscribed in the history of world football. This symbolizes the continuity of generations. On the reverse side there is a flying soccer ball with a map of Russia on the planet Earth. More recently, new banknotes of 200 and 2000 rubles have entered circulation. Expansion of the nominal range Russian ruble, according to the head of the Bank of Russia, it was expedient and reasonable economic solution, since banknotes of this denomination are issued in countries with an inflation rate of 4 to 6%, which is what Russia is striving for. The design of the new banknotes was chosen during the All-Russian popular vote. Each not indifferent citizen of Russia could vote for one of ten options that were selected as a result of the competition, which took place from June to October 2016.

When the bill went into circulation
When the Central Bank announced the competition, more than 5 thousand applications were received, of which only the most worthy ones were selected - only 76 different proposals, covering the sights of 49 cities and regions of the Russian Federation. Closer to the beginning of the voting, a dozen leaders were determined who "competed" for the championship among themselves. Despite the fact that every resident of the country would like to see the sights of his city on one of the new banknotes, the majority nevertheless preferred two of the ten options presented.
On October 12, 2017, the head of the Bank of Russia E. Nabiullina presented new banknotes. This day became a significant date for Russia - the day of the release of new banknotes of the 2017 sample. The presentation was held in the format of a teleconference between three cities. The capital of the Russian Federation, Vladivostok and the Crimean city of Sevastopol were the first to receive and see these bills. It was from these regions that the introduction of these banknotes into circulation began. In all other regions of Russia, we saw new bills closer to the new year, in December 2017, after which they slowly appear throughout the state.
What does a 2000 ruble bill look like?
The size of the banknote with a denomination of 2 thousand rubles is 157mm × 69mm. It is made in a beautiful blue color. For printing, thick cotton paper with embedded protective fibers and impregnated with polymer materials was used to increase its durability and life expectancy in circulation. You can feel some relief elements by touch. This is specifically done in order to simplify the recognition of the denomination and the use of this money by blind and visually impaired people.
All old ruble banknotes bear the symbol of the Bank of Russia, and on two hundred and 2000 rubles this symbol is replaced by the coat of arms of the Russian Federation. On the front side in the lower right corner of the banknote there is a QR code, under which a link to the official website of the Central Bank is encrypted. If you turn on the scanner application and bring the code to the camera lens, you can go to the page where there is detailed information with a description of the artistic elements that adorn the new banknotes, as well as the characteristics of the protection complex and methods of checking money for authenticity.
Which city is depicted
Ten "candidates" were nominated for the all-Russian vote, Russian cities and regions, of which the majority of Russians preferred the Crimean city of Sevastopol with its symbols and the Far East. Which city will be depicted on the 2000-ruble banknote, and which on the banknote with a nominal value of two hundred rubles, was already decided by the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia. A decision was made, about which on February 1, 2017, the public was informed that the symbols of Sevastopol (a view of the Tauric Chersonesos and the monument to the sunken ships) would decorate the new two hundred, and the symbols of the Far East would be the image for the new 2000 bill.
Which bridge is depicted
Those who are not yet aware of what was chosen as the symbols of the Far East for the design of the 2000 banknote, it will be interesting to know which bridge became the decoration of the front side of the banknote, and what is depicted on its reverse side. To create the design of a brand new banknote of 2 thousand rubles, the following symbols of Vladivostok were chosen:
- the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur Region near the town of Tsiolkovsky;
- cable-stayed bridge connecting Russky Island and the mainland of Vladivostok.
The Russian bridge is depicted on the reverse side of 2,000 rubles, and there is also a holographic protective element in the form of a stylized drawing of a cable-stayed bridge against the background of the sun.
The ruble symbol image can be seen in several places:
- in microimages;
- on a protective holographic diving thread;
- when translucent.
Attention! The numbers on the banknote are more than large print and have a tangible relief for simplicity and ease of recognition of the denomination of money by blind people. “2000” are painted in dark color on a light background, and light color on a dark background for people with low vision.
How many issued 2000 notes
Immediately after the release of banknotes in denominations of 2000 and 200 rubles into circulation, a stir began, since many people believed that only a limited number of such banknotes went into circulation. Some citizens even managed to speculate, selling them at a price higher than par. The Central Bank assures that the circulation of new banknotes is not limited, they are not commemorative, so there is no need to purchase them.
Those wishing to take possession of a brand new 2,000 ruble banknote should just wait a bit until these bills spread and appear throughout Russia. Then they will be able to take these notes simply from circulation. Experts even suggest that these banknotes will oust the hundred-ruble and thousandth banknotes from circulation. Money in denominations of 200 and 2 thousand rubles will be issued as needed and gradually, in small editions. This is due to the observance of precautions to avoid counterfeiting.
Why did they create a new denomination
There are several versions why the nominal number of ruble bills was replenished with banknotes of 200 and 2,000 rubles. According to the first and most logical version, there has long been an economic need to expand the nominal range to simplify the cash settlement system. Moreover, many developed countries of the world have "two hundred" and just banknotes containing a two.
The second version of the birth of two hundred and two thousand rubles is purely symbolic. The head of the Central Bank E. Nabiullina, during the presentation of new banknotes, said that money was issued with such a denomination the developed countries when relatively low level inflation in the country, therefore, the issue of new banknotes and the expansion of the nominal range of the ruble was an economically profitable solution.
Another version is the devaluation of banknotes in denominations of 100 and 1000 rubles, so the government decided to release money into circulation, the nominal value of which will be twice as much as this.
Important! Some sources have information that the reason for the issue of 2000 banknotes was the song of the famous Mumiy Troll group "Vladivostok 2000", in fact, this is where the idea of depicting the symbols of the city of Vladivostok on the banknote arose.
One way or another, but since December 2017, new 2000 Russian bills have already been actively used in circulation throughout the country, and over time their circulation will grow.
On Thursday, October 12, the Chairman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina and general manager Goznak Arkady Trachuk presented new banknotes in denominations of 200 rubles and 2000 rubles. The presentation was held in the format of a teleconference Moscow - Vladivostok - Sevastopol. New banknotes have already begun to enter circulation, but the massive introduction of new banknotes will begin in December.
Elvira Nabiullina said that the regions depicted on them will be the first to receive new banknotes. This is about Far East and Crimea. So, on the banknote with a face value of 200 rubles, the Tauric Chersonesos is represented, and on the back - a monument to the Scuttled Ships in Sevastopol. The Vostochny cosmodrome is depicted on one side of the 2,000-ruble note, and on the other, the bridge on Russky Island in Vladivostok.
The new banknotes will be introduced into circulation in stages - this is a standard international practice adopted to counter counterfeiters, Elvira Nabiullina emphasized.
"WITH today banknotes will begin to enter circulation. The Central Bank expects that the massive introduction of banknotes will begin in December, when both banks and trade enterprises will complete their preparations. Now you will need to prepare all ATMs and payment terminals to work with banknotes. In our opinion, it will take a little time, by December the whole system will be ready, ”the head of the regulator quotes TASS.
Elvira Nabiullina stressed that the introduction of new banknotes will not affect inflation in Russia, which is already below the target value of the Central Bank for 2017 (4%). At the same time, the Chairman of the Bank of Russia did not rule out that the use of banknotes with denominations of 100 and 1000 rubles would be reduced.
“The introduction of new banknotes will not affect inflation. This is done for the convenience of the functioning of economic entities in Russia - as a rule, these are retail outlets and, of course, individuals... A two-thousand-ruble bill makes it possible to simplify cash circulation, because, as a rule, no one has change from five thousand. And, roughly speaking, if someone managed to exchange these five thousand, then the next one who presents five thousand for payment will no longer find change. From this point of view, there will be a simplification of financial operations for all entities, "the chief strategist of the BCS management company Maxim Shein commented on the introduction of new banknotes to RT.
According to the analyst, it makes no sense for the financial authorities to withdraw the hundred-ruble note from circulation. Another question that still remains open is whether it is necessary, given inflationary processes, to continue printing banknotes with a denomination of 50 rubles.
In addition, the five thousandth note may soon be modified. This statement was made by the head of Goznak, Arkady Trachuk.
“The five thousandth banknote was put into circulation in 2011. The seven-year period of modification begins next year - it can be assumed that work on modification will be carried out, "Trachuka quotes TASS.
The last time the Central Bank launched new denominations of banknotes was in 2009 - then a ten-ruble coin entered circulation. Earlier in 2006, a five thousand-ruble note was launched, and in 2001, a thousand-ruble banknote appeared.
Recall that the competition, during which the symbols for new bills of 200 and 2,000 rubles were selected, started in June 2016 and ended in October. It was attended by about five thousand attractions from 1113 cities of Russia. As a result, according to the results of the all-Russian vote, the symbols of Sevastopol and the Far East won.
“Banknotes of 200 rubles and 2000 rubles are launched for convenience money circulation... We have been talking about them for three years now, and, in principle, this is quite justified. I think that large denominations will not be issued, because there is a risk of counterfeiting, and more and more scammers are interested in counterfeits. Any cash turnover is a big expense, including those associated with collection. And here it is clear that the Central Bank is taking care of this, ”Ivan Rodionov, professor of the HSE Finance Department, emphasized in a conversation with RT.
V economic history modern Russia the issue of banknotes of 200 rubles will be the third in a row. For the first time, the State Bank of the USSR issued a banknote of such denomination on October 30, 1991 due to the galloping inflation in the country. On the front side of the banknote was the profile of Vladimir Lenin, on the back - the Kremlin Palace of Congresses and the Trinity Tower of the Moscow Kremlin. But already in July 1992, the Bank of Russia issued a modified version of the two-hundred-ruble banknote - the Lenin profile on the watermark was replaced with wavy stripes and stars, and a colored pattern appeared on the white field.
A year later, changes occurred again. This time thanks to monetary reform... New banknotes of 200 rubles appeared - pink and smaller. On the front side were the Senate Tower of the Moscow Kremlin and the dome of the Senate with a fluttering Russian tricolor. On the reverse - the Kremlin towers, Troitskaya and Kutafya. These banknotes were in circulation until January 1, 1999, when the denomination turned 200 rubles into 20 kopecks.
The first one shows the views of the Crimea. The second is Vladivostok. However, new securities have not yet become widespread. "KP" figured out where the money was.
1. WHERE WAS THE FIRST CIRCULATION?
Immediately after the official presentation, the banknotes began to arrive at the banks.
First of all, the banknotes went to the cities, the symbols of which are depicted on the banknotes - Sevastopol and Vladivostok, as well as to Moscow, Khabarovsk and Simferopol, the Central Bank explained.
The Central Bank did not specify the volume of the issue. There are still few new banknotes in circulation. Some people came across them for change, but you can buy them at the cash desks of some large banks. Naturally, at par.
2. WHEN WILL YOU APPEAR ALL OVER THE COUNTRY?
The Central Bank promised that this process will begin this December. Already now, banknotes are delivered to various federal districts and distributed among banks.
New bills will gradually appear in all regions, - explained in the Central Bank. - But the introduction of any new denomination banknote requires market participants to set up and adapt ATMs and cash register equipment to service it. This naturally takes time.
The Central Bank explained that new bills will be introduced everywhere and in sufficient volume over the next year
3. HOW MANY THEM WILL BE?
An important nuance - the Central Bank cannot take and immediately put into circulation, for example, 100 or 200 billion rubles in new banknotes. A sharp increase money supply could lead to a spike in inflation. Therefore, new items will appear gradually. Valid banknotes deteriorate over time, they are withdrawn from circulation and new ones are issued. For example, they dispose of two hundred ruble notes and issue one banknote of 200 rubles.
Banknotes of 200 and 2000 rubles are not commemorative, their circulation is not limited. They will be produced according to the needs cash turnover like other banknotes. Therefore, it is impractical to buy them at a price higher than par, ”the Central Bank explained.
4. WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE OTHER NOMINALS?
Their number will decrease.
With the introduction of banknotes with a denomination of 200 rubles, the need for banknotes with denominations of 100 and 500 rubles will decrease, the introduction of a banknote with a denomination of 2,000 rubles will lead to a decrease in the number of banknotes with a denomination of 1,000 rubles. At the same time, the volume of cash in circulation will not increase, the Central Bank said.
5. ARE ATMs READY?
Equipment adaptation is not a matter of a minute. Therefore, immediately after the presentation, all banks began to set up ATMs and cash registers to work with new banknotes.
The problem is that standard ATMs usually have 4-6 cash slots. Several denominations in rubles, as well as dollars and euros. Each bank decides for itself which banknotes to put there. It depends on the demand. It's the same with vending machines (which sell coffee, water, chocolates and sandwiches). They can be configured to accept new bills, but it all depends on the wishes of the owner.
Are financial institutions ready?
We have almost finished work on adapting the equipment, - explained to "KP" in the press service of Alfa-Bank. - Now the last preparatory work and ATM checks are being carried out. In the coming weeks, the bank will be ready to accept new banknotes.
Measures to adapt ATMs, terminals and counting and sorting machines to work with new banknotes are in the final stage, Sberbank said. - The bank received new banknotes from the Central Bank in small volumes for technological purposes. For mass issuance to customers, banknotes have not yet been received and have not been delivered to bank branches.
ATM vendors have received samples of bills and are making changes to software... The bank plans to complete the update of the templates and test the processes of accepting and issuing banknotes with denominations of 200 and 2000 rubles before the end of this year. Our self-service devices all over the country will accept new bills, ”the Post Bank explained.
BY THE WAY
According to the head of the Central Bank, the design and security features were developed in the strictest confidence. New banknotes - with plastic impregnation. They are slightly more expensive to manufacture (by about 20%), but they are better protected and more durable - the circulation period is one and a half times longer than the existing ones. And today's paper money lasts, on average, two and a half years.

Banknotes depicting Sevastopol were issued back in October, but people complain - many have not yet seen them in their eyes! - and they envy those who are lucky enough to hold 200 rubles in their hands. And the lucky ones, meanwhile, are not even in a hurry to spend new money.
